Frequent absences can lead to learning gaps, poor academic performance, and difficulty keeping up with the curriculum.
- Social development: School is a place for social interaction, and consistent attendance helps students build positive relationships with their peers and teachers.
- Discipline and responsibility: Punctuality and regular attendance are habits that instill a sense of discipline and responsibility, which are essential skills for future success.
Procedures for absence
- Informing the school: For all absences: Parents must inform the school by calling the main office or the student's class teacher by a specific time (e.g., 8:30 a.m.) on the first day of absence.
- For planned absences: If an absence is known in advance, a written application for leave must be submitted to the principal or class teacher for approval. This includes situations such as family functions or travel.
Required documentation
- For illness: For an absence due to illness, particularly if it lasts more than a few days, a medical certificate from a qualified doctor must be submitted upon the student's return to school.
- For prolonged absence: In cases of extended illness or other serious reasons, parents must submit a formal request to the school, supported by a medical certificate or other relevant official documentation.
- Upon return: For any absence, a note from the parent or guardian explaining the reason should be provided on the day the student returns.
Consequences of non-compliance
- Minimum attendance requirement: As per the rules of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), a minimum of 75% attendance is required for students in Classes 10 and 12 to be eligible for board exams.

- Forfeiting examinations: A student who fails to meet the minimum attendance criteria may be barred from appearing for final examinations or assessments.
Other important rules
- Half-day leave: Half-day leave or leave during school hours should be avoided unless it is a genuine emergency and has been approved in writing by the principal.
- Mandatory attendance days: Students are expected to attend on the first and last day before and after any scheduled vacations. Absence on these days may require a formal explanation.
- Late arrival: Students who arrive late to school must report to the office to sign in. Habitual late arrival will be dealt with seriously.
